30 Rock – This week’s episode had Margaret Cho playing Kim Jong Il and a guest appearance by Condoleeza Rice. And they say there are no new ideas… We got a surprisingly dark plot where Jack’s wife, Avery, was kidnapped by Kim Jong Il and used as a propaganda tool. Of course, this being 30 Rock, we also learned that Tracy made a buddy-cop film with Kim. (We got to see a scene straight out of Glengarry Glenn Ross, in which Kim Jong Il played the role made famous by Alec Baldwin.) Meanwhile, Tracy got mad at Dotcom, Grizz, and Kenneth for having inside jokes (in any other week, “Smooth Move, Ferguson” would have made it to the article title), and Liz tried to take control of her life. That fell apart for he when she noticed a plastic bag stuck in a tree right outside her window. Our favorite part was an unhinged Liz arguing with the bag, which assured her that “bags have genitals”. And the aforementioned Condi (whose past relationship with Jack has been mentioned before, well, she’s not a great actress, but she was still very funny. It’s a 30 Rock trick – if somebody’s not much of a performer, give them something to do that’s so absurd that it’ll be hilarious as long as they commit. That’s how we got Buzz Aldrin yelling at the moon, and that’s how we got Condoleeza Rice in a piano vs. flute showdown with Jack Donaghy.
