Since we now have proof that little has changed with Greg in a year-and that he’s still waiting to ship out to Vietnam-it’s hard to believe Joan is really making a go of this marriage. The only thing I can think is that appearances are everything to Joan, and she made a promise to stay in this relationship; failure is not an option. So, even though she’s not married to the man of her dreams, she’ll make it work and let it play out. Then, after a few big fights over work obligations and whose job is more important, we see Greg actually shine for once, stitching up Joan’s hand after she cuts it quite badly. He gets her to relax, smile and giggle as he shows off his goofy bedside manner and takes care of his wife when she needs him. So Joan is feeling better about things for now, but it can’t help but be a rough road ahead for these two no matter what.
