Mad Men Roundtable – “The Good News”
That aside, it’s always good to see Anna just because of how she affects Don. I love seeing Jon Hamm handle these scenes, because he’s almost physically different when he gets to be Dick Whitman. And my heart did funny things when I saw how he signed the wall – he signed it as “Dick”.
What I like is that it, apparently, was not something difficult for him. They could have really milked that moment with a melodramatic scene where he paints the “D”, and then pauses, as if uncertain which vowel comes next. That’s what a bad series would have done. But here, it’s not an issue. When he’s with Anna, he’s Dick. It’s just how things are.
