12. The Good Guys – This show was so much fun. I feel sorry for people who didn’t watch it, but I’m also mad at them because their lack of viewership helped ensure that we wouldn’t get a second season. But it was a great ride. Yes, we’ve seen mismatched buddy cops a thousand times before, but this was something special. Colin Hanks was great as the straight arrow Jack Bailey, but the show belonged to Bradley Whitford’s Dan Stark. Coasting off of the time he saved the Governor’s son in 1985, Dan Stark is a walking throwback to the cop shows of the ‘70s and ’80s. He sports a glorious mustache and drives a Trans Am with which he is always willing to run over a perp. It’s one of the years great performances, dripping with misplaced machismo. Beyond the wonder that is Dan Stark, The Good Guys had inventive plots which usually involved Bailey and Stark getting accidentally involved in major criminal operation that were tangentially related to the property crimes that they usually investigate. Fast and funny, The Good Guys was one of the most fun shows of the season, and I’m going to miss it dearly. Check it out on Hulu while you’ve still got the chance!
